In Argentina, Puerto Quequén has completed the loading of one of its largest ever shipments of agribulk. The vessel in question was bulk carrier “Seralia”, which took on board 68,000 tonnes of locally produced soya beans at the ACA Terminal on berth 3. The consignment, which was organised by Pleamar stevedoring, was bound for China.
The Panamanian flagged vessel is 229 metres long and has a 32-metre beam.
According to the port’s management company, the fact that such a vessel is attracted to Quequén is a direct reflection of port policies to promote competitiveness, draft and predictability. This particular consignment is amongst the four largest agribulk shipments ever handled by the port, which has become one of Argentina’s leading agricultural export hubs.
The port notes that efficient dredging and logistical modernisation allow vessels of this size to operate at maximum cargo capacity, thereby minimising logistical costs and enhancing the value of production across the entire port hinterland.
