Bedeschi has been awarded for the complete EPC contract from Voestalpine, a major international steel maker, for a complex upgrade of their recently built “DRI” – Direct Reduced Iron plant production plant at Corpus-Christi / Portland, Texas.
The plant was developed and built during the pandemic period and despite the adversity and several limitation Bedeschi has been able to successfully complete and start up the project. The plant has been handed over is now operating since March 2022.
The scope of supply consisted of full mechanical/electrical and civil supply, fabrication erection and commissioning of Iron Ore pellets handling and screening systems.
The system consists of about 1.5km of conveyors with a capacity of up to 1.550 Mtph, 2 screening towers with a screening capacity of up to 1.550 Mtph of Iron ore pellets, fines separation before feeding the DRI plant as well as a rail mounted ship loader.
The ship loader supplied by Bedeschi has a boom length of 50 meters and has a loading capacity of 2,400 metric tons per hour.
Its task will be to load deep-sea vessels with HBI (hot briquetted iron). A peculiarity of its construction is its ability to use a special spiral system, in order to minimize the HBI breakages and to reduce dust emissions during the loading process to an absolute minimum.
The entire system also has the capacity of storing and reintroducing the fines with a dosing system into the circuit in order to reduce the amount of waste material.
The system is equipped with covered storage system for the fines fractions, all designed and fabricated by Bedeschi.
