In the first three months of 2026, the Chilean Port of San Antonio reported traffic amounting to 5,816,977 tonnes, which was
an increase of just below 1% compared to the same period of last year, when it handled 5.774 million tonnes. The port says
trading conditions currently have to be viewed as “challenging” given a backdrop of international disruption in the maritime
business.
However, dry bulk traffic performed surprisingly well, up 6% to 1,061,658 tonnes. In comparison, container throughput was
virtually unchanged and most other traffic segments reported either low levels of growth or none at all.
According to managing director of Puerto San Antonio, Fernando Gajardo, “The performance we have observed during this
first quarter reflects Puerto San Antonio’s ability to adapt to a challenging international environment. Nevertheless, we have
managed to maintain stable and positive throughput levels similar to those recorded in 2025, which demonstrates the strength
of our operations and the commitment of all stakeholders in the port system to ensuring the continuity and efficiency of the
logistics chain.”
