Viterra Inc has leased the grain terminal at the port of Montre´al from the port authority, which it will now manage. It has a storage capacity of 260,000 tonnes and is linked to both the Canadian National and Canadian Pacific railways.
Viterra is responsible for 45% of Western Canada's grain handling capacity, making it a more important player than either Richardson International or Cargill. However, at present, it has no terminal capacity on Canada's Atlantic coast.
The concession to operate the Montre´al terminal commences on 1 July 2011.
