In India, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone has recently commissioned its new mechanised loading system at the Export Terminal at Berth 4 in the Port of Dhamra.
The first vessel to benefit from the enhanced loading times brought about by the new system was the MV APJ Jaouad.
The introduction of the new equipment is expected to considerably boost vessel turnaround times, improve cargo-handling efficiency and better streamline bulk cargo movement. In addition, it is hoped that it can help the port attract new customers.
Dhamra Port is already a key gateway for the movement of bulk commodities and industrial cargo from the mineral-rich hinterland of eastern India. Given its deep draft, it has been able to attract larger vessels, which also benefit from good road and rail infrastructure to major industrial centres. With the new shiploader active, these existing advantages can help exporters in eastern and central India to enjoy greater supply-chain efficiency and improved access to international markets.
