Cimbria has helped HES Bulk Terminal complete a major infrastructure expansion at the Port of Gdynia, strengthening Poland’s grain export capabilities significantly.
 
The project introduces a modern grain warehouse and a new complex of high-capacity silos, giving the port a major boost in both storage and transshipment performance.
 
The development supports the steady but rising growth of Poland’s wheat, corn, and other grain exports. By expanding its infrastructure, HES Gdynia provides the sector with the space, speed, and reliability required to meet local and global demand.
 
FROM GROUNDWORK TO FULLY OPERATIONAL
Cimbria delivered the expansion through a carefully co-ordinated, multi-phase approach, spanning approximately one year.
 
PHASE 1: FOUNDATION AND STRUCTURAL GROUNDWORK (JUNE – NOVEMBER 2023)
The project began with clearing the site and preparing the ground. Crews then built the concrete pillars and strong perimeter walls that form the warehouse’s main structure. Excavators, cranes and other heavy machinery handled most of the early work, creating the solid base needed for a facility of this size.
 
PHASE 2: FRAMEWORK ASSEMBLY AND ENCLOSURE (DECEMBER 2023 Å APRIL 2024)
After the groundwork was finished, the team moved on to assemble the warehouse’s metal framework. Large steel trusses were connected on elevated platforms, quickly forming the main structure. Once the frame was in place, the arched roof panels were installed, giving the warehouse its recognizable shape and protecting the grain inside.
 
PHASE 3: SILO CONSTRUCTION AND FINALIZATION (MAY – JUNE 2024)
After the warehouse structure was completed, work began on the new grain silos. Crews laid the circular concrete foundations and then assembled the tall cylindrical metal bodies section by section. The final stage focused on internal outfitting, bringing the silos and the wider facility to full operational readiness.
 
 
 
ENHANCED CAPACITY AND FUTURE-READY INFRASTRUCTURE
The completed infrastructure boasts an impressive, combined storage capacity of approximately 85,000 tonnes. This includes 21,000 tonnes for the newly erected silos and 64,000 tonnes distributed across four chambers within the new warehouse.
 
This substantial increase in storage space is critical for meeting the fluctuating demands of the grain market and providing flexible solutions for customers. The facility is equipped to handle significant volumes of incoming and outgoing cargo, ensuring smooth and efficient operations within the busy port environment. The intake capacity is 1,000 tonnes per hour.

  • Integrated handling system: each of the four flat-storage chambers and all individual silos connect directly to three discharge points for railcars and trucks through bottom-dump pits, along with four dedicated truck loading points across the warehouse.
Each storage unit is fully integrated into a central system, enabling flexible intake and dispatch operations via a conveyor network that ensures smooth, automated, and synchronized grain handling across the new facility. This advanced setup significantly improves process optimization, reduces turnaround times, and enhances overall operational capacity.
